@yadupa -
So glad to hear you entered the contest!
Here is the answer to your question from Tourism New South Wales, the sponsor:
Sydney is the largest city in Australia but it has a wide range of accommodation to suit all budgets and tastes. For more information about places to live in Sydney, check out the following link: http://us.sydney.com/Accommodation_in_Sydney_p3203.aspx.
Also, part of the prize is a daily talent fee for promotional activities. If you were to be one of the 4 winners, we would work with you prior to you coming to Sydney to help you find work, help you plan some fun activities and give you an idea of what promotional activities we would like you to be part of. Depending on your availability, we would pay you a talent fee of AUD$500 per day. You could use this talent fee to offset the cost of your accommodation.
LindsEy,
Thank you for the information regarding this competition, it seems as though this web page was easier to find the rules and regulations rather than the actual web page itself. I have entered this contest and wanted to know the actual travel dates exc. I found it way faster here than anything…..
Regarding living and working in Australia, how much is typical rent in Sydney? It says on the web page of rules and regulations you are required to find your own place to live. I was concerned about that portion of the contest and if they assist you at all in the process?
@Maggie – Thanks for the comment!
@Nikola – Thanks for your question. Here is the response from Tourism New South Wales:
This competition is available to legal US citizens of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia only. However, Canadians can apply for a Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa if they do want to work and travel in Australia. More information about this type of visa is available at http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/.
@Daniel – Here is the answer to your question from Tourism New South Wales, the sponsor of the contest:
The working vacation is for a period of up to 12 months if the winner applies for a Working Holiday Visa. There are certain eligibility criteria that the competition entrants also have to meet as follows:
* Open to legal US citizens of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, who will be at least 18 years of age and no more than 30 years of age as of January 31 2009.
* Winner must be able to apply for and receive a valid US passport and be willing to travel to Australia during the period of February 2009 through December 2009.
* Winner must be a high school graduate.
* Winner must apply for and receive a Work and Holiday Visa, a Student Visa, or an Employer Sponsored Visa from the Australian Government. To be eligible you must meet the eligibility criteria stated above and meet all the requirements to obtain the required Visa. For more information on Visa requirements visit http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/.
Also, a competition winner could bring a spouse as long as the spouse’s travel expenses are covered by the winner and if the spouse also meets Australian visa eligibility criteria.
I thought I was the only one who worked on vacation! Just kidding. What a great idea and a perfect client for you! I’m happy to see opportunities for such fun work and life adventures. This is exactly what we all need! Thanks for sharing Lindsey.
Hi! I was wondering if there was an entry that was open to Canadians, b/c in the rules it specifies US citizens as only being able to apply.
Thanks!
Nikola
How long is this “working vacation” and could I bring my wife!? :)
Good luck to all participants :)
the prizes are so tempting
